When patients sign up for surgery, they are also scheduled to attend the PreOp Joint Replacement class usually about 3 weeks before the surgery. Family members are encouraged to attend the class, but the following video of the class is helpful for everyone to watch at least once.

What activities can I immediately do after my hip replacement? What can I do months after my hip replacement?

Dr. Kurtz has one simple rule: DON’T FALL.

Other than that, Dr. Kurtz allows his patients to resume any activity whenever they feel comfortable enough to gradually work up to a particular activity.

When can I drive after a hip replacement? Return to work? Travel?

  • Driving is usually 3-4 weeks.

  • Return to desk work is usually 3-4 weeks.

  • Airplane travel is 4-5 days for emergencies and 5-6 weeks for recreational travel.
