Dr. Will Kurtz

Dr. William (Will) Kurtz is a hip and knee replacement surgeon at Tennessee Orthopedic Alliance (TOA). In addition, Dr. Kurtz serves as the President of TOA and the Chief of Orthopedics at St. Thomas Midtown Hospital.

His orthopedic training started at Vanderbilt in 2000. In 2005, he and his wife (Emily) moved to Boston for the AuFranc joint replacement fellowship at New England Baptist Hospital. Upon their return to Nashville in 2006, Dr. Kurtz joined TOA where he has always specialized in hip and knee replacements.

Currently, Dr. Kurtz does about ~450 joint replacements a year equally split between hip and knee replacements. He does about 85-90% primary joint replacements and 10-15% revision joint replacements. He has clinic at TOA’s One City office (8 City Blvd, Nashville TN 37209), at TOA’s Lebanon clinic (1035 South Hartmann Dr., Lebanon, TN 37090), and at TOA’s Hendersonville clinic (501 Saundersville Rd. Hendersonville, TN 37075).

Dr. Kurtz operates on the St. Thomas Midtown campus which includes the St. Thomas joint replacement institute on the 8th floor of the hospital, the Hospital for Specialty Surgery (sometimes referred to as the North Tower) and the Baptist Ambulatory Surgery Center. He also operates at Centennial hospital’s Joint Replacement Institute.

Dr. Kurtz is very active in orthopedic implant development and research. He has helped design 3 custom knee replacement systems and two custom hip replacement system. He has 3 ongoing clinic research studies looking at outcome in hip and knee replacements and has published many articles in orthopedic journals.

Dr. Kurtz is also President of Tennessee Orthopedic Alliance and has served on the TOA board for the last 6 years. He serves on the OrthoForum Board. He has served on the Faith Family Medical Center Board for 6 years which is a Christian based medical clinic that provides affordable healthcare to Nashville’s working poor. He is on the Surgical Advisor Board for Conformis. He started Operation Walk’s Nashville chapter 7 years ago which provides free joint replacements each year to Middle Tennesseans in need.
